Industrial production in April

In April 2018, the total value added of China’s sizable industrial enterprises was up by 7% year-on-year, an increase of 1.0 percentage point from March. In April alone, the total value added of these firms rose 0.61% month-on-month. In the first four months, their total value added was up by 6.9% year-on-year.

More specifically, the value added of mining and quarrying decreased 0.2% YoY in April, the value added of manufacturing increased 7.4% YoY, and the value added of production and distribution of electricity, heating power, gas and water was up by 8.8% YoY.

In April, 37 of 41 industrial divisions maintained year-on-year growth. Among those, the YoY growth of processing of food from agricultural products was 5.8%; the textile industry was up 2.2%; the manufacture of raw chemical materials and chemical products, up 5.2%; the manufacture of non-metallic mineral products, up 1.9%; the manufacture and processing of ferrous metals, up 5.0%; the manufacture and processing of non-ferrous metals, up 5.8%; and the production and supply of electric power and heat power, up 8.3%.
